Custom maps are created from the ground-up using reference photos, existing documents and / or satellite imagery. Sketch lines are converted to digital paths which are cut through finished materials. Piece by piece, layer by layer - each map comes to life through patience and precision. Finishes range from natural wood to painted surfaces that match the depicted terrain or bodies of water.
Our current laser has a 20x28" working surface, but we are in the process of expanding its capabilities. Prices are tied to the size of the map, materials used, the number of layers and surface finishes. Base layers are typically 1/2" or 3/4" plywood while top layers are typically 1/8" or 1/4" plywood. A 12x12" map with a single layer mounted to a base plate generally runs $100 while a 20x20" map with a single layer mounted to a base plate generally runs $300. Assembly typically takes 3-4 weeks.
